Monty

Monty
montynap.jpg

Monty was our first ever dog and came to us as a stray.  Skinny, exhausted and wounded he jumped into my husband's car and never left.  Prior to meeting Monty I swore up and down I'd NEVER own one of those vicious pit bulls.  The second day we had Monty in our home my mind was changed forever.  As I put together a microwave cart in our tiny rented home he stretched out on the floor in the middle of the living room (biggest room in the house and room I used to build the microwave cart).  I was a little unnerved the first time I had to step over Monty's sprawled out body.  By the time I  built the cart and rolled it passed his head, narrowly missing his ear, I'd probably stepped, jumped and leaned over him hundreds of times...dropping parts on and around him.  He never moved, never made a sound and never took issue with me prodding around looking for missing parts etc.  Monty is still our best dog.  He's our number one babysitter who keeps pups in line better than mom usually.  Monty has truly impacted mine and my husbands life forever and we love him dearly.  A GREAT example of pit bulls and how they could impact us all if we let them.

Bantam's  Hermionee

hermioneeface.jpg

Hermionee is a pup out of an accidental litter I produced of Boerboels.  The breeding was planned, however, the timing was not and because her dam’s hips were not scored at the time the breeding took place I chose not to register the whole litter.  Hermionee has turned out so well that I do kick myself for not registering the litter, however, those who own her sisters I feel probably do not have top notch Boerboels so for the good of the whole picture I suppose it’s better to have skipped registering them at all.  Hermionee is a very serious guardian but is happy to meet new people and gentle with all who meet her.  She’s typical in the Boerboel temperment being a Velcro dog as well as having learned early on that we are the ones who know best what is a threat and what is not.  She takes her job very seriously and when necessary will jump into action.  Hermionee has a GREAT althletic ability and drive to please and defend.  We love her as our family and while her breeding was accidental and she may have never even been produced if her Dam’s hips had been x-rayed beforehand we are glad she is around to keep us company and help keep us safe.  One of her littermates is here in town living with a disabled woman and doing a GREAT job impersonating a certified service dog.

Banshee

Banshee is our Great Dane x “Fence Jumper” that we came across at 4 weeks of age, her owners practically throwing her in our lap to get her off their chests (along with her three other brothers and sisters who are in homes).  She has lasting effects of her lack of early socialization, even when at four weeks of age we did what we could to mellow her out and help her over some of the fear she suffered.  She’s still a little aloof, not so much shy but a sweet girl.  Very serious about keeping intruders at bay, as her bosom buddy Ozzy taught her all she knows.  The two are practically inseparable.

Papreekah

papreekah.jpg

Papreekah was rescued from a breeder who had her Whippets outside in a barn, snow 4 feet high at least.  The Whippets would run the gauntlet through the snow tunnel from the barn to potty outside in the yard…  Whippets do not have ANY body fat and therefore do terribly in the cold.  They are NOT good outside dogs and WILL freeze to death quickly due to their lack of body fat.  Papreekah is a love muffin who likes to stretch out in the back yard for a run with Hermionee and then come inside to lay on the couch for the rest of the day.  She’s very vocal and we often think she must tell the dogs stories before bed at night…as we hear her making some interesting little noises in the dog room.

Dauby is a sparse coated Chinese Crested I purchased from a breeder in Alabama.  He is my token lap dog/accessory dog.  He thinks he’s a big dog and can play big dog games with them so we have to be very careful who his pack members are or he’ll end up with injuries.  He’s the smallest dog we have topping out around 4-5lbs.  Quite small for the breed.  He loves riding in my bike basket and walking the Old Town area with us in Ft. Collins, provided he’s got his little shoes on.  He’s a great joy to have to snuggle up with on the couch.
